Claireece Jones the Harlem teenager at the center of the movie “Precious", based on the Novel ‘Push’ by Sapphire, lives in a world of specific and overwhelming horror. She goes by her middle name, Precious, which seems like a cruel taunt, since nearly everyone around her thinks she’s worthless and lets her know it. This new movie which was executively produced by Tyler Perry and Oprah Winfrey will likely be up for an Oscar. Set in Harlem in 1987, the movie chronicles Precious’ struggle to overcome the desperation of her circumstances, including the emotional and physical abuse she suffers at the hands of her mother Mary played by Mo’Nique.
