ONCE IT GAVE ME AN AFFLICTION, I WAS CAUGHT UP IN ADDICTION SENDING ME UNTO MY OWN PERSONAL CRUCIFIXTION. THE OVERDOSE MADE ME COMATOSE, BEFORE I HAD A CHANCE TO REVERSE THE PATH I CHOSE. THIS JOURNEY LED TO A GOURNEY, WHERE I WOKE UP WONDERING IF THE WORLD WAS STILL TURNING. AS THE FOG CLEARED I SAW MANY TEARS, THEN I THOUGHT I HEARD AN ANGEL WHISPERING IN MY EAR. Spain is the European leader in illegal music downloads, a new report claims. Spanish computer users illegally downloaded more than 1.2 billion tracks in 2007, according to authors' and publishers' society SGAE.The figures, published Wednesday, show that not only is illegal music downloading rampant in Spain, but that the illicit activity is increasing swiftly. The number of tracks downloaded free has grown steady from "only" 180 million in 2003 to 1.2 billion last year, for an overall growth rate of 566%.The European Interactive Advertising Association (EIAA) says that 58% of all Spanish Internet users illegally downloaded music in 2006 against a European average of 37%. In 2003, the Spanish average was just 48.5%.SGAE mechanical reproduction director Juan Palomino comments, "the increase in attacks on intellectual property in Internet is almost exponential, and logically, the destruction of the music sector runs parallel. We have seen an enormous growth in digital piracy [in Spain] in the last year".In the report, compiled by Spain's Culture and Entertainment Market Research Center (Cimec), and unveiled at the Midem trade fair, the EIAA says illegal music downloading is the fourth main Spanish Internet activity after using e-mail, entering Web sites, and using Messenger.

This is going to be a sanitized, self oriented project. There will be no profanity or deragatory names for women. The actor, comedian and philanthropist will address issues such as: Proper parenting skills, Drug abuse, Black on black crime and Teenage pregnacy just to name a few. "State of Emergency" will be his 35th album released since his first album in 1963. I am very interested to see how many units he will sell.

In a recent interview with MediaTakeout.com, Peedi says that the entire State Property roster has been dropped from Rocafella Records. Peedi says that Jay originally scheduled one-on-one interviews with everyone however he opted to send an A&R from Def Jam out to Philly last week to deliver the bad news. “There’s no more Roc-A-Fella. Everyone’s free to leave.” Peedi claims the A&R told him.

As we previously reported, Foxy Brown asked New York state to let her out of prison earlier to get her hearing treated in a California facility where she was previously treated. Just today, the request was denied. Prosecutors argued that the 29-year-old rapper can receive the treatment that she needs in New York and labeled the request a "desperate and frivolous petition." Good luck to Foxy on this. I am sure she will try and get out of jail as much as she can to get her treatments in New York.

This young brother is doing BIG things. He currently hosts 106 & Park on BET, simultaneously doing charity work. He just got signed with Ronald McDonalds House charities as the head of the African American Future Achievers scholarships. So far $29 million dollars have been granted for young people to attend school. He tours different schools with McDonalds' executives and talk to kids about his life story and the facts about college, and he gets them to apply for these grants to better their education. I think this is remarkable to have such a young, dedicated man in such a position where he can bring positive to our youth. The 106 & Park show has resigned him. He will be featured in the Sean John fashion show this February. He is getting ready to close a deal with Boost Mobile. I am very excited for him. Good morning all, I know alot of you saw the State of the Union address last night, maybe not because you wanted to but because it was aired on every single local channel. It was very interesting for me to hear what Mr. Bush's plans to boost our slowing economy. Wasn't Bush the one who sent troops over to Iraq to commence a senseless war which has more benefit to him then us? So why is now urging Congress to jump on his $150 billion dollar economic stimulus package to boost the economy? Yet he is sending 3200 more Marines over seas, this doesn't add up. I personally believe if he sends our troops home, we could focus those funds on other issues: social security, unemployment, health insurance, etc. I just feel Bush is full of shit, and I can't wait for his term to be up. With all the campaigning and foolishness going on among the candidates we need to really go out there and have our voices heard, because as it stands the future looks very grim for us as a whole.

Looks like we will hear no album this year from Joell Ortiz who recently confirmed with Hot 97's DJ Envy earlier this morning that he will not be putting out an Aftermath album. When DJ Envy asked Joell whether he was dropped or not, Joell responded by saying "I wasn't dropped, I was asked to be released." Miss Jones later commented that it did not matter that he asked to be released because he was going to get dropped anyway. Never the less - I hope Joell comes out with something this year. The internet is blowing up with videos of this dude T-Day dissing Young Buck. T-Day was apparently one of his old thug friends and they have now grown apart.

I guess this is more proof of what happens when you mess with street dudes. While it looks good for rappers, and it may increase your street credibility in the short term. I question whether if it is worth even having thugs around you? Seems like the most thuggest dude will sell you out if they did not get on. My experience has been with street cats is that 80% of them don't want to work for anything. They think being at the right place and at the right time is going to be all they do and looking hard will be good enough. Here are 3 reasons why the most thuggest rapper should leave their boys in the projects rather than putting them on.

#1 - Your Thug Friends Contain More Liability than Accountability - Why put someone on as your road manager when all they ever managed was the cell block on C76 in Rikers?

#2 - The Rap Game Really Isn't Like The Crack Game- Unlike what you have been lead to believe. The rap game works nothing like the crack game and I am sure that even Biggie would validate that if he was still living. For those of you who still think its similar, then you probably have not sold enough records to truly see what this business is like. Don't get it twisted - there are no Jimmy Iovines or Tommy Matolas in the crack game. These are straight business men with dollars on their mind. Leave your crack dealer friends to the corner and don't dare to make them a part of your staff. You will live to regret it.

#3 - Thug Friendship & Business Don't Mix - Let's be clear here. You may have stepped in when we got jumped several years ago at the club and we became closer. I also may have appreciated it to a point where I would do the same for you. However - in business - you need to be on your A Game with decisions, and unfortunately your hand skills carry no weight in the busines of music. Unless you can benefit the business financially, you may just be better suited for a security job on my team. Or perhaps you can do a bid for me when I get into real trouble like Diddy did with Shyne. Otherwise - don't bother to do business with a thug you came up with unless they have demonstrated a willingness and smarts about making money in the game.

We talked yesterday about a new peer to peer web site called Qtrax that will make illegal downloading a thing of the past. Well just this morning, web site Coolfer.Com reported that Qtrax, which missed its midnight ET launch, did a media blitz! It said it has deals with all four majors (and reiterated the claim in a press release today). But yesterday Warner Music Group and Universal Music Group denied that claim. Today, Sony BMG (Reuters) and EMI (Los Angeles Times) both said they do not have deals with the P2P service.

Allan Klepfisz, Qtrax's CEO, says the service will go ahead and launch with the four majors' catalogs. When asked if he is worried about a lawsuit, Klepfisz replied, "The answer is nobody has threatened us with a thing."

At a recent press conference, it looks like he and Sony will support this new approach. This means alot from the company who brought us root kits which was software that was embedded on your PC to prevent you from copying a CD. It felt like a family affair Ivan Sanchez was in the house with his boy Big Mel,Doc Rodriguez, Emma of E2K Magazine. La Bruja, Aja Monet, Props and 10 year old spoken word artist sensation NE NE ALI took to the stage and blessed everyone with their knowlegde and perspectives and the Mc's tore it up- What? Tu no sabe (you just don't know) between Rebel Diaz, Patty Dukes and Immortal Technique's performacne I was about to have a stroke, what intense immense talent. I even got in on the act and danced with my lil Warrior princess Barbara La Guerrera and we did some serious Booty shaking (ripples and waves fellas you missed it) then I introduced The Pioneers of Hip Hop (Prince Whipper Whip, Grandmaster Caz, Dj Tony Tone, JdL) who took to the stage and closed the end of the night with a Bang! And as the fellas stated on the show, the place got packed and people were standing outside in the freezing cold waiting for their turn to witness the unity, peace and love. Amazon just announced the international rollout of Amazon MP3. This is an online store front offering DRM-free music from all four major labels. That's 3.3 million songs (priced at $0.99 or less) from over 270k artists encoded in 256kbps MP3 files for playback on any PC, any Mac, and pretty much any portable device you might own.

While Steve Jobs mentioned several months back that record labels should make their tunes DRM Free, Apple iTunes is not quite there yet. This may make Amazon a real threat to their market share. As of now, I can see Independent artists gravitating towards marketing their music on Amazon over iTunes. Primarily due to the fact that their music can be shared and played on nearly every player. Lets wait another month or two before Apple makes the announcement and gets their shiznit together. Until then, go get your music on Amazon bro! !

Well the buzz popping on the Internet surrounding Free Music is a new web site and File Sharing Client called QTrax.

As the pressure heats up with labels being forced to make their music free and DRM free, Q Trax introduces a Peer 2 peer file client and web site that claims to offer over 25 million songs. The difference is that this company touts itself as being the first legal Peer 2 Peer file sharing network. Q Trax has managed to sign up the Big 4 Record labels with their service. That is right! Universal Music Group, Sony/BMG, EMI, and Warner Music Group have signed up with QTrax. In addition, they have had several celebrities attend their press conference today.

So what is the catch? Well - you will have to deal with advertisements, you may or may not be able to copy certain songs, and I am sure there will be links to purchase the album for a price. Universal music group is expanding its traditional means of making revenue, and will be partnering with Beverage companies to expand into non music revenues. In an SB 2 Filing filed by Universal Music Group the other day, it states the following:

My people, mi gente...Remember earlier in the week , when I reported the passing of Heath Ledger and Usher's Daddy (I stated that you usually hear about death in 3's) well this morning the thrid celebrity to pass this week is Christian Brando the troubled son of Marlon Brandon (The Godfather, A Streetcar Named Desire) he was 49.
Hopefully they are together again (Marlon passed when he was 80). RIP I truly hope you are at peace brother...Condolences to the entire Brandon family.

My girl Keisha is doing BIG things. She guest appears in the movie "How she moves" which hit theaters today (Jan 25). She plays herself in the movie although the role is small she is very excited about it. Keisha is preparing for her next album which should be ready by Christmas time this year. Ms. Coles is interested in doing the last season of "The way it is" the reality show which documents the struggles which make up the positive role model who is Keisha Coles. I really give this young woman a lot of credit for what she stands for. She grew up with adoptive parents, her mom was in jail for drug abuse, she didn't grow up with her immediate siblings, but yet her determination to overcome her past and build a great future for herself is really amazing. I think our young girls growing up in this time and age need a positive role model such as herself.

It looks like Amy Winehouse is changing her tune. She has checked herself into rehab for her drug addiction. Ms. Winehouse has been nominated for six Grammys and needs to pass a drug test before obtaining a Visa for this years show. My heart really goes out to her, only she knows the demons she battles. She is a very talented artist, and her label, Universal Music Group is fully behind her with confidence that she will get better and resume making great music for her fans.
Amy, the road ahead may not be an easy one, but if you're as passionate as your music translates, you'll be just fine...at least I think so. Hang in there girl.

Remember when you knew where the good weed spot was at. Their was even a time when you knew who sold what and in what quantities. The days of the crack spot are long gone. Whatever drugs you want they have, I just scored me some top grade heroin. It was so strong that I nodded and actually banged my head on some dog feces that was left on the concrete. Why is that people in the hood never pick up after their dogs? Did you know that Lindsay Lohans coke dealer wants to sell his story about his drug interactions with her to the highest bidder. What kind of message is this sending to our kids and where can I get his number. Seriously pills have killed more celebrities than cancer and thank god I'm a mere nobody with a tolerance level of 10 of them put together. Even Amy Crackhouse drools at my tolerance level. My People! My N##gas, Distinguished guests, fellow readers: As we gather tonight, CD sales are down, major label revenues are sliding, and the music industry looks to be in recession. But music isn't dying; it's changing. This is not only a great article outlining data and trends to support the decline in CD sales, and the rise of Digital sales. But the real kicker here is that the article talks about recent event where EMI Executives recently invited teens to discuss the state of the music industry. At the end of the meeting, the Executives told the teens to take as many CDs they wanted as a thank you for their time. Upon walking out, none of the teens grabbed any of the CDs. Now that says alot of how much this business has changed!

Although his name was cleared in any wrong doing in the case of Donda West (Kanye's mom), the doctor is claiming his practice has suffered tremendously. Following the advise of his council, the man is not not talking. The challenge ahead is proving himself in front of a very judgmental public. Personally speaking, although the actual cosmetic procedure didn't cause Ms. West to pass, Dr. Adams as a professional should have been a little more thorough in his medical assessment, perhaps be a little more persistent in her seeing the internist for her clearance. Basically we know that once we want something we'll go through many extents to get it, but this was a senseless loss. At the end Kanye West is left without his best friend and the doctor is left without patients. We need to be wise when we choose our decisions.

What's good , my name is Pantera and I am Egradio's new blogger so get ready to be blessed with the grace of a Panther. As we all know Lil Wayne aka Dwayne Michael, Carter Jr. is in trouble again. He got arrested on Tuesday (Jan.22) in Yuma county, Arizona after a search of the vehicle turned up a presence of illegal drugs. He has posted $10,000 bail and is scheduled to appear in court on Friday (Jan.25). After posting bail, Mr. weezy was blessing his fans with autographs. No charges have yet been filed.

Rumors in the streets of East New York are reporting that Uncle Murda was grazed with a bullet near his head in East New York on Tuesday - January 22nd, 2008. Uncle Murder called "The Wendy Williams Experience" yesterday on (1/23/2008) and informed them that he was shot in the head last night (1/22/2008) in East New York! If the city obtains this court order it will be the first attempt in the city's history to ban gang members from hanging out on the public street. The police are attempting to ban about 200 members of the gang,plus Suge Knight, from carrying guns, using gang gestures, spray painting, fighting or being on the streets after 10:00 PM.

This is a great technology popping here and I think it will revolutionize the iPod and Radio Industry. Jook is a wireless technology standard that allows any portable music player to act like a personal radio station. Basically, Jook wirelessly broadcasts songs to people in the immediate vicinity. Think of Jook as "social networking meets music". With the success of social networking sites like Facebook, it only makes sense to expand on this market. With this technology people can share, brodcast, and listen to music using their Mp3 players. In Hip Hop, I can just picture listening parties popping where Artists can come in and spin their own joints without needing to pay the DJ for spins.

According to recent reports on Lil Wayne's arrest in Phoenix, a search of his vehicle turned up 105 grams of marijuana, 29 grams of cocaine and an unspecified amount of the drug ecstasy. Two members of his entourage were also arrested on marijuana possession charges. I am thinking that he is doing time.

A recent article by CNN reveals that the recently released movie American Gangster is 99% Fake, and 1% real with several reliable sources to prove Frank Lucas is full of shit. In the article, reliable sources such as Judge Sterling Johnson Jr - who tried Frank Lucas states:

"The picture is 1 percent reality and 99 percent Hollywood," Johnson says. "Frank was illiterate, Frank was vicious, violent. Frank was everything Denzel Washington was not."

Johnson went on to say that Lucas wasn't capable of securing a drug connection from the infamous Golden Triangle. Instead, it was Leslie "Ike" Atkinson, a sometimes supplier for Lucas, who was recently released from prison after serving more than 30 years. Atkinson has said he shipped drugs in furniture, not caskets.

In the article, Atkins states:

"It is a total lie that's fueled by Frank Lucas for personal gain," Atkinson said by e-mail. "I never had anything to do with transporting heroin in coffins or cadavers."

It seems like Frank Lucas should be labeled as Frank Bullshit. He hyped things up for the movie, as well as his son who is an up and coming rapper. Unfortunately, this makes the old man look bad and certainly does not improve his character. Sounds like he is just a once upon a time drug dealer low life who wants to take credit for a lot of things he did not do. I say throw him back in jail. For the full story click here.

Some organizations just don't get it? Instead of embracing file sharing, the RIAA takes it to another level to stop the sharing of music. The RIAA is considering adding RFID tags (tracking chips) to CDs to ensure that the CD is always with the buyer. With the tracking device, the RIAA and its member labels can make sure the CD buyer hasn't loaned a CD to a friend, or is playing it in an unregistered device. What an idiotic idea and conflict of privacy as well. They are probably going to try to sell this to record labels, and watch CD sales flunk even more now! They need to fire their CEO!

Can someone help me understand why the RIAA needs to sue college students for sharing music? Is this something a kid in college should be worried about when they are trying to get an education? It seems like the RIAA continues with the senseless motions. In a recent article published yesterday, the RIAA sued a college student by the name of Natalie Miles. In the article she states:

"It's horrible," said Miles, who insists she did nothing wrong and can't afford to settle. "I just don't think that these people realize that they're ruining people's lives."

The letter was especially astonishing because Miles, who doesn't count herself as much of a music fan, said she never used Limewire, the file-sharing service that the Recording Industry Association of America cited in the letter. But she acknowledged that others might have used her computer in her absence because she wasn't careful about protecting her password.

What is interesting is that peer to peer file sharing sites like Limewire have a default setting built into share files. Why are they not suing Limewire? I say Boycott the RIAA. They just don't get it!

On DJ Kay Slay's Sirius Satellite Radio show "Streetsweeper Radio" last week, Kim shared that she harbors no ill feelings toward Atlantic. Neilson Soundscan bombarded us with reports about the decline in music sales in 2007 at the very beginning of 2008. Since we cover the Latin Music scene as well - we thought we would share this latest report. According to Nielson Soundscan numbers, Latin Album Sales have been down 15% in 2007 which is just over 1% over the total decline in overall album sales.

Not surprisingly is that this puts the genre right in line with the decline of overall music industry sales. However - it is interesting to note that the decline certainly did better than Hip Hop which experienced a 30% decline. So what does this say about the music industry, the hip hop game, and the Latin music industry? Perhaps that we should all embrace the digital era, recognize that Latin music is on the rise, and that Hip Hop has a lot more to prove before it goes back to selling multi platinum albums. The age of being hard and blowing up in Hip Hop is over. The time to be creative, groundbreaking, and inventive is upon us.

Perhaps, this also tells us that Latin people buy more records than Hip Hop enthusiasts? Whether your African American, White or whatever, it seems that the Hip Hop buying power is not economically positive. Instead - it is the Latinos, the Mexicans, Puerto Ricans, Dominicans, and Latin people who make minimum wage who are spending more money than Hip Hop geeks with decent 9 to 5 jobs. So how does a Latino who washes dishes for a living buy more records than a Hip Hop fan with a 9 to 5? Simply put - it is the fact that Latinos are passionate about music! The values are different, and most of us probably don't have internet access to download a song anyway.

While most of us Latinos may work in the kitchens cooking or serving you food, it seems like our purchasing power is stronger than the Hip Hop demographic. Maybe it is because the white boys in suburbia are sick of hearing how many shots a rapper busted? Or maybe it is just that Latin people get too drunk, and spend money more money on partying, and buying music? Perhaps I should start spinning Salsa every weekend on EG Radio now? Maybe I need to join my man DJ Sin Cero (pictured left) who has been true to his Latin Hip Hop roots and building a big brand for himself in Miami. Perhaps I should go on tour with Jimmy Flavorr and get in on that Dominican Hip Hop craze that is popping now. Or perhaps I need to start making Bachata mix tape cds and rebrand myself as Dj Ras - Ero!? What are your thoughts?

In an article posted by the Associated Press, A New York judge told Foxy Brown on Thursday that she's going to have to provide medical proof for why she should be let out of jail to repair her defective cochlear implant, a surgically implanted hearing device. AP reports that acting Manhattan Criminal Court Judge Melissa Jackson told the rapper (born Inga Marchand) that she needs more information before deciding if she can let Brown out of jail to fly to California for treatment and a repair of the implant.

Ive been in the melting pot (London) for 3 days now, and already hip hop debates have been flying!
My hype man Mozeski who was an origin-al urban street performer/dancer, who did shows on TV... adverts, the lot back in the day, is a BIG Wu fan. He loves the new 8 diagrams by Wu-Tang, and I can't lie...I am starting to warm to it, the more I listen the more I like it, BUT! A London radio show shouted it out to be "album of 07 and 08, and ground breaking!" Now come on good old school hip hop album it is...album of the year it ain't.
If were talking great albums...then talib's ear drum or kanye's graduation which has a completely different sound to anything I've ever heard before would be up there.
I suppose if you were looking for that real hardcore gutter back to the roots shit...then 8 diagrams is probably it..but my personal out look on it is that talib's clever lines, slick flow and meaningful lyrics are a better buy.

Aside from knowing what Martin Luther King stood for, I could not help but ask the question on whether he was considered Hip Hop, or whether he would approve the message, culture, and style associated with Hip Hop? So this is the question I am asking on this special day.

In many ways - I think Martin Luther King was Hip Hop. He stood for Freedom of Expression in an age where African Americans could not express themselves. The same way Hip Hop gave a voice to the millions of poverty stricken youths around the globe.

Martin Luther King went against the grain and did not conform to the normal ways of society. Instead he challenged everyday culture to think in a different way. As a result of his efforts, he made the world see a change occur that some would say was impossible to implement. Similarly, Hip Hop also did the same thing with the music culture. In the early 70s and 80s - Hip Hop was the music of the poor people. Today - it is the music of the mainstream and it has transformed the way music is made and the way we perceive and hear music.

I am sure there are several other similarities between the ways of Hip Hop and Dr. Martin Luther King. In addition, I am sure there are also significant differences. However - as I compare the two, I often wonder if Martin Luther King would support Hip Hop if he was alive today? Would support Hip Hop consistently or would he lobby against it for selfish political ways? Would he support Hip Hop selectively like some of today's African American political figures such as Al Sharpton, and Jesse Jackson. Or would he be the political voice for Hip Hop today that we simply don't have. What are your thoughts?

It might be illegal but when your ghetto like me you are not going to get accepted or invited to Harvard. I attended a kids party yesterday at a bowling alley in Brooklyn. It was nice too see that a Kid party stays a kid party. Years ago it would have turned into an adult fest and only would celebrate the child's born day while cutting the cake. Adult invitees would then puff on a cigarette and drink away. You would find cocaine residue on the bathroom sink and groping on the dance floor. It was usually held at your house and never in a hall unless you had money. Thankfully we have come to our senses as a society and let the children experience their birthdays in a positive light. My cat just jumped on my lap and it just clawed my privates...ouch.....I think my left testicle is bleeding... Time to log off..40Master What am i saying?, i have no cat...

Three Indiana University students are working to create a hip-hop fraternity on campus.

They’ve laid the foundation and created a plan, and now their dream is becoming a reality.

Eta Iota Rho, or HIP, is a new fraternity that focuses on the four main elements of hip-hop: break dance, graffiti, DJing and MCing


The founders of HIP said they want to educate the community, express themselves artistically and end the negative stereotypes associated with hip-hop.

The fraternity has three founders - sophomores Keane Rowley, Justin Wolverton and Quinnton Parker - but hopes to have 12 members participating by the time it finishes organizing.

The three students met their freshman year at IU’s Breakdance Club and share a passion for all aspects of hip-hop culture.

Rowley said HIP is the first fraternity that embraces hip-hop values.

The three founders searched for established national organizations, but could not find anything that resembled exactly what they wanted to create at IU. So, they decided to create HIP.

“We want to be something different,” Rowley said.

HIP has a Student Organization Account, a constitution and is currently seeking financial aid. It will begin living in a house and taking pledges next fall.

Rowley said that even though people may not take HIP seriously now, every organization has to start somewhere.

He said HIP intends to be a co-ed, multi-ethnic fraternity and while it wants to include people of all stripes, it is particularly interested in those with some previous hip-hop experience.

“If a person has a desire, we won’t exclude them,” Rowley said. “But we are looking for people that have some prior knowledge.”

Each HIP member will learn about the four main elements of hip-hop but will specialize in one particular area.

A group of former federal drug enforcement agents filed a $55 million dollar class action lawsuit against NBC Universal on January 16, claiming they were defamed in the hit movie American Gangster. Three agents claim the final credits of the film falsely states that three-quarters of the DEA agents assigned to New York were convicted as a result of the cooperation of heroin kingpin Frank Lucas, portrayed by Denzel Washington. The agents, who seek to halt all distribution of the film, claim that Lucas no agents were convicted as a result of Lucas’ cooperation with police officer Richie Roberts, played by Russell Crowe in the flick. Universal issued a statement denying the allegations in the lawsuit. "American Gangster does not defame these or any federal agents. The law enforcement officers portrayed in the film are identified as members of the New York City Police Department. The end legend specifically refers to members of "New York City's Drug Enforcement Agency" -- not the federal Drug Enforcement Administration where the plaintiffs formerly worked." Universal said in a statement.

Duck Down Records artist Rock, of the group Heltah Skeltah, is set to appear in court in Brooklyn, NY tomorrow (Jan 18) to find out if he will be indicted on second degree attempted murder and related charges.

According to Montgomery, Rock is currently is being held by the New York City Department of Corrections on $125,000 bond, while his family, friends and label mates are putting together his bail package.


"My investigators tell me that the alleged victim is currently in custody on some sort of parole hold," Montgomery added, "so I actually believe he will be indicted tomorrow. This case will go to trial, probably sometime around September."

Rock, born Jamal Bush, was arrested and arraigned on Tuesday (Jan 15).

"The Brooklyn District Attorney’s office alleges that Mr. Bush shot a known pimp and Bloods gang member in the neck, paralyzing him," Montgomery said. "They also allege that Mr. Bush is a pimp and this was a dispute over an alleged lady of the night. Mr. Bush categorically and unequivocally deny all charges. We eagerly look forward to trial and proving his innocence."

With the fate of 1520 Sedgwick Avenue hanging in the balance, Hip-Hop co-founder DJ Kool Herc is issuing a call for supporters of the genre to help save the culture’s official birthplace.

AllHipHop.com has learned that Kool Herc’s clothing company Sedgwick & Cedar Corp will launch Save 1520, a charitable collection of tees, hats and jackets.

One hundred percent of net proceeds from the sale of Save 1520 clothing will go toward helping the 1520 Sedgwick Tenant Association obtain governmental and philanthropic assistance to purchase the building, in addition to preserving the project and maintain affordable housing.

We have heard over and over about slumping CD sales, but according to a recent article I stumbled across it looks like Vinyl is increasing in sales. Snippets from the article reveal as follows:

Vinyl records are just a small scratch on the surface when it comes to total album sales--only about 0.2%, compared to 10% for digital downloads and 89.7% for CDs, according to Nielsen SoundScan-- Still, 990,000 vinyl albums were sold in 2007, up 15.4% from the 858,000 units bought in 2006.

Perhaps we will buy the next Snoop Dogg album in Vinyl? I am not sure if I can go back to Diggin in The Crates and doing our radio show by bringing the crates to the studio when we DJ. Thoughts?

It's been a busy week for me over in Colorado Springs, and I missed blogging on EG Radio. Every day has been filled with getting up at 6am for 7am meetings going to 6pm in the evening, then doing dinners and drinks at night till about 10pm. Sounds like fun but it has been a long tiring week. Im just about 2 miles away from the Rocky Mountains where NORAD (Our Military Command Center) is located. NORAD is where our President lives whenever there is a Nuclear war while the rest of us just get nuked. As far as Hip Hop, there is certainly a multicultural community out here. There is a heavy Hispanic population, along with every other mix of cultures here. Most of the mexicans are illegal here and work at the local mexican restaurants. Mexican food is hugely poplular here while the bars barely pump Hip Hop here in Colorado Springs. However, you will find that many cats dress Hip Hop here in Downtown Colorado springs. Just one hour away in Denver, Hip Hop is huge. On the weird side of things - I have heard that this town is filled with very religous evangelist followers while people also practice Witchcraft. It is actually normal to hear about Goat sacrifices near the mountains late at night. This is a weird place, but certainly worth a visit if your into skiing, the mountain scenary, and a chilly environment. According to a recent article in Billboard magazine, Foxy is asking her judge to let her out of prison early due to the complications she is having with her hearing. She writes as follows:

"I ask you to please take into consideration that my health is in jeopardy," Brown wrote in a four-page handwritten letter to Judge Melissa Jackson. The letter was part of an appeal filed late yesterday (Jan. 15) at New York State Supreme Court.

"Yes, I've made some bad choices and stupid mistakes. But please understand that sitting in a prison with murderers and criminals is not rehabilitating or what I need to deal with my inner issues."

Tony Yayo's lawyer wants the charges against the G-Unit rapper dropped after yesterday's courtroom revelation that another man confessed to the assault of Jimmy "Henchman" Rosemond's 14-year-old son.

As SOHH previously reported, knowledge of an old jailhouse confession came to light in Manhattan Criminal Court yesterday (Jan 10). The District Attorney revealed that Yayo's co-defendant, Lowell Fletcher, told the Hip-Hop Police that it was he who slapped Rosemond's son and not Yayo.

According to the police statement: "Fletcher saw a young boy wearing a Czar Entertainment T-shirt. Fletcher further stated that he slapped the boy across the face and began to grab the boy's shirt. At this point Marvin Bernard (Yayo) exited the vehicle, tried to restrain him (Fletcher) and get him back in the vehicle."

Fletcher's statements to police were made in the absence of his attorney so it is unclear what value if any, the confession will have.

Though Yayo's lawyer Scott Leemon was "very troubled" by the violation of Fletcher's Constitutional right to council, he expressed his intent to appeal to have his client cleared. "They disclosed it today," Leemon said of the statement. "And we plan to file a motion for dismissal."

After being granted a thirty day grace period before having to report to jail on weapons charges, Mobb Deep rapper Prodigy has decided to shoot his new music video inside a prison cell.



Reports from New York's Daily News confirm that Prodigy, whose real name is Albert Johnson, received permission from officials at the Queens House of Detention to film a video there. According to corrections officials, Prodigy paid for use of the cell. [Watch footage of Prodigy preparing to shoot "Real Power is People" below]

Prodigy was granted permission to film just days before Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Edward McLaughlin agreed to give him another thirty days before reporting to serve a three-and-a-half year prison sentence, while doctors put together his complete medical record. Prodigy suffers from sickle cell disease.,

P however, is denying that the judge allowed him extra time because of his disease. The Queens emcee recently released another video on his website hnic2.com claiming he asked for the extension in order to have more time to put his career in order.

In the eleven minute clip, P explains that he asked his lawyer Irving Cohen to request an extension for business reasons, not health ones. [Watch video here]

Prodigy is expected to begin serving his sentence in early February. His second solo album, H.N.I.C. Part 2, is due out this March.

A report was released recently with a list of Hip-hop and other entertainers who have recieved steroids or H.G.H shipments. Included on this list are, Mary. J. Blige, Fitty, Timberland, Wyclef, Tyler Perry and more.. I for one called it on this one. I have many close sources that reside only in my head. I knew Mrs. Blige was on the roids when she sang a hook on some rappers song and i thought it was Biggie Smalls. 50 cent might not have been snorting coke but he damn sure was getting ass injections from Dr. Dre. Timberland got big too quick, either he was dabbling or he was benchpressing Missy Elliot. Tyler Perry and Wyclef confuse me on this one. I would figure that Wyclef was smoking weed and Tyler Perry was on some sh*t for a multiple personality disorder. Those who were not on the list include, Fat Joe, Rick Ross, D.J Khaleb, The Fat Boys, Bizzy Bone, Heavy D, Snoop, Eminem, Skinny ass Soulja Boy and many more. This has the potential to shake up the rap world as we know it and give 50cent another topic to rap about. In a recently published article online, it looks like some private investors are looking to buy the birthplace of Hip Hop at 1520 Sedwick Avenue in the Bronx. In 1973 DJ Kool Herc held a party in the community room of 1520 Sedgwick Ave where his innovative DJ style laid the ground work for the invention of Hip Hop. The 100-unit apartment complex also boasts another distinction; it is one of the few remaining affordable housing complexes in the West Bronx created through the NY State Mitchell-Lama program. There is apparently a community protest happening tommorow (1/15/2008) to help keep the location and preserve its historical value. For the full story click here.

According to a recent article, EMI is off to making major cuts in positions and re-structuring as a result of the declining music economy. About 2,000 jobs are expected to be cut in an effort to reduce marketing expenses. Other highlights from the article include the fact that the company will be split into two groups (creative and back office) and a new incentive scheme will be based on profits. Perhaps now is not the best time to get into a career in the music business. Until this EG Radio movement becomes profitable business, I am certainly not quiting my day job! You won't catch me playing wanna be Hip Hop mogul in this business. My money has to be up first. A recent article published by Times Union indicates that rapper 50 Cent, Producer Timbaland, Wyclef Jean, and Mary Jay Blige have all received shipments of steroids to their homes from various drug makers of growth hormones. At least this explains Timbaland's weight loss that literally occurred overnight. While Baseball is going nuts about steroid use, I really don't see the big deal with entertainers using them. Unlike sports where these things can help improve on the field performance, can someone truly say that the use of steroids helps them to make better music or sell more records?

This has to be a tough year for the Wu, and the drama continues with U-God suing the Wu Music Group for 170k for royalties and payment that is allegedly due to him. I am not certain about the fate of the Wu. It seems that you can only bring ghetto brothers together to make 1 magical album. Then after that, the egos, pride, and the greed get in the way because nearly all of them are struggling to stay in this business.

According to my sources Lupe Fiasco is throwing in the towel! He has said after he makes his third album he's going to retire.

I was just browsing through the web for new gadgets and stuff and I came across this anti-theft gadget for your ipod. Well not even your ipod, phones, digital cameras loads of stuff. Apparently you get this gadget installed into your ipod say and if someone steals it when they plug it into there computer it sends a email to there server and it comes up with the address of the person name telephone number, even there email. It's like Google maps for crooks, so then before you know it the old bill (cops) are knocking on there door!!I love the idea of this, but i am a little bit sceptical if it will work, but something to look into in the future i think.

It looks like the economic realities of the music business are forcing large music companies to evaluate what the RIAA is actually doing for them? For most of the last 2 years, the RIAA has been the body that sued grandmas, and kids around the world for downloading music. Now - that crusade is over. EMI is unhappy with its contributions to music trade groups. Now, the IFPI confirms to Ars that the organization is taking a hard look at its own budget and mission, with a special eye to its relationship with national groups like the RIAA. The RIAA as we know it might even cease to exist.
