Will.I.Am Signs Kelis

Posted by Pantera on , under | comments (0)

Say word...

Will.I.Am has recently signed R&B singer Kelis to his Interscope imprint and has total confidence that she will become an international sensation.

"Kelis has always been a best kept secret, the cool people know Kelis. But the majority of people just know Milkshake. I would like Kelis to show she's an international sensation, she can be big. If Kelis were fashion she would be a girl's favorite pair of shoes or a coat...high fashion."

Will.I.Am has a reputation for transforming his artists into stars and doesn't worry about his artists becoming bigger than he is such as pop singer Fergie.

"I've proven that's not me. Fergie is huge. When Fergie blew up she was bigger than me! I believe Kelis can do the same."

Kelis will release her fifth album titled Flesh Tones this upcoming May with the lead single already out called Acapella.

Speaking on the single, Kelis hopes that listeners will grow to love it the way that she does.

"My song is called Acapella and I wrote it with love and life in mind. I hope that it finds you well and that you love it, cause honestly I do!"

Jay-Z Backs Out Of Casino/Racetrack Deal

Posted by Pantera on , under | comments (0)

The controversial plan to open 4,500 casino slots at Aqueduct Race track in which Jay-Z was to be a partner in is falling apart.

Yesterday (March 10), New York’s Gov. Paterson wrote a letter threatening to kill the deal with AEG to open 4,500 casino slots at Aqueduct race track in Queens.

In the letter, Paterson’s office has stated that he will “disqualify” winning bidder AEG. In response to the letter, powerhouse Queens Minister Floyd Flake responded by resigning as a partner in the project, stating,

“Unfortunately, my ongoing participation in Aqueduct Entertainment has become a distraction that has taken me and my attention away from the community projects I created and nurtured. I support Aqueduct Entertainment’s vision for the revitalization of my community through the creation of jobs, retail facilities and other opportunities for growth.”

In addition to losing Flake, Hip-Hop mogul Jay-Z, who had an estimated 2% interest in AEG through his ownership in Gain Global Investments Network, has backed out of a deal with the Aqueduct Entertainment Group to invest in the Aqueduct racino it was revealed on March 9th.

Chris Breezy Begs his Fans to Keep Him Relevant

Posted by Pantera on , under | comments (0)

R&B singer Chris Brown has asked his fans to help get his music played on the radio by calling into stations and requesting his records.

Chris explained his situation during a SayNow broadcast:

"I ain't never really did this but right now I need all of my fans help," he explained. "A lot of radio stations aren't playing my records. They are not being that supportive and I wouldn't expect them to. It's on the fans and what you guys do in your power to bring me back. That's all I need is you guys and nothing else will do that except for the fans...I don't know what else to say. It's nothing else that I can do. I'm doing everything that I need to do. I'm doing me as a person and I'm a better guy...It's on ya'll. My singing and my music I do it for you guys and everything else but it won't be possible if I'm not relevant on the radio and it wouldn't be possible for me to be an artist if I don't have the support. I can't be an underground mixtape artist. That's where we are. I just want all my fans to help me. I love ya'll. Peace."

How Obama Is Making the Same Mistakes as Bush

Posted by Ace AnDreTTi on , under , | comments (0)

Who would have thought that one of Barack Obama's biggest missteps as President would be repeating some of the bad habits of George W. Bush? No single factor was more instrumental in Obama's 2008 victory than his pledge to completely reverse the nation's course once in the White House. Instead, over the past year, Obama has mimicked some of Bush's most egregious blunders, leading to much of the political predicament in which the present decider finds himself today.

This is not to say that Obama has maintained Bush's policies, although his Administration's continuity on issues ranging from Afghanistan to Wall Street has alienated the left. And he certainly hasn't done himself any favors by failing to inspire the general public to rally around his agenda. But Obama's stumbles atop the high wire of running the federal government have created perhaps the greatest danger to his presidency, and they are oddly reminiscent of the misguided practices that tripped up his predecessor. (See pictures of Obama's first year in the White House.)

Consider all the ways in which the current occupant of the Oval Office has — inadvertently or otherwise — repeated the errors of the recent past:

No Chief Economic Spokesperson. Quick: Name all three of Bush's Treasury Secretaries. Hard to do, isn't it? Like Bush, Obama has failed to install an economics commander in chief who can serve as the public face and the in-house honcho of the Administration's financial team. Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner, National Economic Council chief Larry Summers and Council of Economic Advisers chair Christina Romer all bring strengths to their positions, but none is especially effective at conveying either a consistent message or a sufficient urgency, and none stands out symbolically or practically as America's economics czar. It is not practical for the President himself to serve as the daily go-to guy on any one issue, and given the short- and long-term consequences of the financial and unemployment crises, Obama desperately needs a distinct leader to handle this vital job. Bush needed a Robert Rubin figure, and so does Obama.

Failure to Integrate Policy, Politics and Communication. By the end of Bush's two terms, even some of his supporters were disappointed (and, at times, horrified) by how much of the decisionmaking at the highest levels of government were more a result of political machinations than rigorous, substantive policymaking. From its earliest days, Obama's White House has failed to put in place the necessary procedures and personnel to move strong, serious ideas along the conveyor belt from the minds of wonky experts cloistered in the Old Executive Office Building chambers to the President's lips as he introduces new initiatives at dramatic public events.

Tying the Administration's Fate Too Closely to His Party's Congressional Leadership. Republican leaders in Congress effectively persuaded Bush in almost every year of his presidency to marry his fate to theirs — and all too frequently, to subordinate his vision of right and wrong to their short-term political demands. This problem was particularly pronounced in the area of spending, from a mammoth farm bill to an expensive entitlement in the form of a Medicare prescription-drug benefit to colossal business-as-usual earmark spending. Bush also tarnished his personal image by staying largely silent in the face of ethics flaps involving Tom DeLay, Jack Abramoff and other scandal-plagued Republicans. (Obama should take note, as he continues to sidestep meaningful comment on the long-running travails of Democratic Congressman Charles Rangel.) When Bush ran for President, he, like Obama, suggested he would regularly cross his party's congressional wing when he thought they were dead wrong. And Obama, like Bush, has lashed himself many times over to the political fortunes of the Capitol Hill portion of his party, allowing the agenda and vision of Speaker Nancy Pelosi, majority leader Harry Reid and a covey of mostly liberal committee chairs to define the public image of the Democratic Party and determine what his Administration can accomplish.

Failing to Empower Cabinet Members on Domestic Policy. Obama has put numerous talented people in his Cabinet, from a Nobel Prize winner to several successful governors, but like his predecessor, he has no system to get the most out of them. Cabinet members in the domestic-policy cluster have less input, and less of a platform, in determining and selling Administration policies than their counterparts at State and Defense. Finding the right balance — giving the domestic Cabinet enough influence, but not too much — is tough, but Obama, like Bush, has placed too little weight on the side of the Secretaries. Potent and active Education Secretary Arne Duncan is an exception that illustrates what the President could be doing with the rest of the team.

The good news for Obama is that each one of these errors is fixable, and there are signs that the President and his staff are working to address at least some of them — for instance, by adding new policy heft to the chief of staff's office. The more cautionary note, however, is that Bush never solved these problems, which plagued him from his earliest months in the White House until the day he left. Candidate Obama's repudiation of Bush's eight-year presidency was focused on his predecessor's ideology. He should have taken stock of Bush's executive process as well.

Tecmo Super Bowl to be revived as Tecmo Bowl Throwback on Xbox 360 and PS3

Posted by Ace AnDreTTi on , under | comments (0)

Tbt-1
Fans of the classic football game franchise, Tecmo Super Bowl, are cheering.

Game publisher Tecmo officially announced on Tuesday a downloadable console game based on the Nintendo classic. The Entertainment Software Rating Board ruined the surprise a couple weeks ago when it leaked info about the game before the publisher was ready to hike.

Tbt-3 Tecmo Bowl Throwback is a remake of the Super Nintendo game that redefined the genre. We called the original, along with Super Mario Bros. and Legend of Zelda (excluding Oregon Trail), a timeless classic.

Throwback will be available via download in the spring on Microsoft's Xbox Live Arcade and Sony's PlayStation Network. Players will be able to play online against friends, who can debate whether to set the play mode to the new 3-D or old-school 2-D graphic style. Online leaderboards will track stats.

Unlike the original, the game will not feature actual NFL team and player names. That's because Electronic Arts has an exclusive agreement with the league, led by its dominating Madden franchise. Throwback will instead allow players to customize names and uniforms.

Other games have tried to wiggle into the huge football gaming market without the blessing of the NFL and have mostly failed.

All-Pro Football 2K8, the spiritual successor to the NFL 2K series and ESPN games, saw one iteration before disappearing. Blitz: The League, which tried to make up for a lack of NFL endorsement with edgy content like steroid use, likewise did not gain a major following.

A new entrant called Backbreaker will try its hand in May, relying on visual magic to woo gamers. But Tecmo is hoping to capitalize on the warm and fuzzy feelings many have about their first digital football love.

In the Throwback news release, the company adds that the game has been rated "E for everyone" by the ESRB. The publisher somehow managed not to refer to the ratings board as "blabbermouths."

The World's First Commercial Brain-Computer Interface

Posted by Ace AnDreTTi on , under , | comments (0)

Intendix Just focus on the letter you want to type; Intendix does the rest. Intendix

The world's first commercial effort at a patient-ready brain computer interface is on display over at CeBIT 2010, but don't go throwing out your keyboard and mouse just yet. Intended for patients suffering from locked-in syndrome and other communication-impairing conditions, the Intendix from Guger Technologies allows users to input text using only their brains.

Intendix works using an EEG-sensitive cap that measures brain activity that is focused in a particular way. You simply watch a grid of letters that flashes on the screen, focusing on the letter you want to type. When the letter you want lights up, your brainwaves jump ever so slightly, allowing the EEG to determine what to type. Guger Technologies claims that the interface is simple enough that users can utilize it relatively well after just ten minutes of training.

As the brain acclimates to the system, users can type as quickly as one letter per second, making it possible to carry on a conversation and communicate complex thoughts, a step above some of the more rudimentary communication systems that have been devised over past decades.

At more than $12,000 per unit, Intendix is a bit pricey for the BCI enthusiast simply interested in the technology, but the commercialization of the product does signal a new degree of accessibility to brain computer interfacing. It doesn't appear we're going to be mind-melding with our PCs anytime soon, but this certainly marks a small step in that direction.

Check out a vague yet visually interesting ad for Intendix below.
